Herman Miller Joins Research Partnership

Herman Miller recently agreed to become a Research Partner with the Center for Health Design (CHD) the non-profit research organization.

CHD specializes in healthcare facility planning and design related research.

Miller has actually been affiliated with CHD since its inception in 1990 and has now agreed to be a research partner for a 3 year period.

Over the years Herman Miller has been responsible for the development of many ground breaking products, none more so than the Aeron and its derivative the Mirra chair. The move seems to be an excellent opportunity for the development of future innovative product ideas.

CHD hope that other key players in the industry join as partners to broaden its existing knowledge and research. It will be interesting to see if others follow Miller’s lead.

Wireless Mini Keyboard Helps With RSI

keysonic wireless keyboardI just invested in a great little wireless mini keyboard from Keysonic and it’s brilliant.

If you work at a desk or workspace with limited space then this keyboard is a great help. The main reason that keyboards are as big as they are is to house the numeric keypad, but how often do you need that?

By doing away with the keypad and replacing it with an embedded numeric keypad the Keysonic ACK-540 ALU comes in at only 11.37 inches long, that’s over a third shorter than conventional keyboards. It’s well worth the effort of learning a different way of keying in numbers.

The board also has a good quality built in mouse that incorporates a scroll bar too, I’m still getting used to it and so use a normal mouse as well.

The good thing is that with desk space I’ve saved I can now operate my mouse and still keep my wrist straight, I’ve already noticed an improvement in mousing comfort.

The build quality and wireless range of the product is excellent too. You can buy the Keysonic Wireless Keyboard online here.

Eames Aluminum Group Chair 50 Years Young

Following on from my previous post about the online survey that voted the Eames Aluminum Management Chair a close second in a best task chair contest, it just goes to show the power of good design and how it can continue to appeal many years after its introduction.
Eames Aluminum Group Chair
In fact, 2008 marks the 50th anniversary of the Eames Aluminum Group’s first appearance way back in 1958.

It’s hard to believe that the product has been around that long, it certainly doesn’t look its age.

If it was introduced tomorrow as a new product it’s doubtful that anyone would consider it dated or old fashioned.

Why is this?

I think it’s down to its simplicity of design and shape, the absence of levers and gizmos greatly enhance its timeless appeal all in all a really well designed office chair.

You may like to consider this link for further information on the Aluminum Group range as well as the best site to buy online.
