Best Task Chair Survey

I came across an interesting site the other day that just ran a contest to find the best task chair.

The chairs they selected are all quality products, although they only included 4 models and two were from Herman Miller, not surprisingly the Aeron but strangely the Eames Aluminium Management Chair.

But then who am I to judge? The Eames came a close second to the Aeron with the Freedom and Leap chairs trailing well behind.

To be fair only 42 people voted, however some of the comments are interesting about their experiences using the products as well as other types of seating not included in the survey, like kneeling chairs. It’s the kind of feedback you won’t find on the manufacturer’s website.

Are bad habits causing you back pain?

Sometimes we can cause ourselves unnecessary pain and discomfort by not correcting bad postural habits.Often it’s something quite simple like not facing your computer monitor straight, just angling your neck to the left or right when typing in your office chair can build up problems for your spine over a period of time.

Or are you sitting all day without getting out of your chair? It may sound silly but when you’re concentrating on something or you’ve a deadline to meet, it’s all too easy to find you’ve not got up out of your chair for several hours to have a walk or stretch. Your body needs variation and movement, so get into the habit of getting out of your chair frequently.

And it’s not just at work either. You should never sleep on your stomach as it puts a lot of strain on your upper back. Try to always sleep on your back, but if you do need to sleep on your side try and change position several times during the night.

You can find more details in an article by Chiropractor, Dr Jeffrey A Sklar that discusses these and other do’s and dont’s for your neck and back in a recent post to his Blog.

Classic Office Chairs – Timeless Masterpieces

Classic seating like the Barcelona chair or some of the chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller seem to look good in almost any setting.

A lot of this has to do with their clean classic lines, free from excessive detail and complication.

They often look so simple and straightforward, you almost feel that you could have designed them. The truth is that they actually involved a huge amount of design input to get to the end product.

In fact Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the German architect famed for designing the Barcelona Lounge Seating Range, once commented that it often seemed easier to design a new building, than something as basic as a chair.

Regrettably, a lot of the classic designs of years gone by are no longer produced and have become extremely rare.

Thankfully though, many are still being produced today, often to the exact specification of the original ones, by the original manufacturer.

If you are interested in what’s still available, there are classic office chair reviews and information here, explaining what is still in production and the options available.
